1935 | Austin | 7 Pearl Cabriolet | 9,162 (Not Warranted) | £2,000 + buyers premium | |
Description:On the Surface: This is a 1935 Austin Seven Pearl Cabriolet, a cabriolet version of the ARQ Ruby. The Austin Seven series revolutionised family motoring in the 1920s and 1930s, making motoring accessible to the masses. In the mid to late ’30s, the early spindly cars evolved into a more mature, fuller-bodied design, in models with names like Ruby, Opal, and Pearl like this one. This particular Pearl Cabriolet is a rare gem, with only 10,000 Austin Seven’s as whole known to exist over the world surely the Pearl Cabriolet is now a very rare breed. Maintenance: Originally restored to a high standard in 2000, this Austin Seven Pearl Cabriolet now requires some additional restortaion work to bring it back to its former glory. While the paintwork remains in very tidy condition, both mechanical and cosmetic aspects require further restoration. The ash frame, as far as can be observed, is still in good shape, and the original leather seats still have serviceability. The car also includes the original wicker basket containing some remaining parts and trim for the necessary finishing touches. History: Regrettably, the historical documentation for this Pearl Cabriolet is limited. The available file consists of the registration document and a selection of Austin Seven Owner’s Club magazines. The Model: As mentioned before the Pearl Cabriolet is a cabriolet version of the ARQ Ruby. These models started production in 1934, however, there is no information on when production stopped or how many were made. This Seven like all others manufactured from 1923 onwards have a 747cc engine which produces 10.5hp. Sale Insight: This car has been within the Vendor’s family now for over 50 years with The Vendor himself owning the car for the last 21 years. The car is part of a private collection to be sold at no reserve due to the Vendor’s loss of storage space. This Pearl Cabriolet presents a unique opportunity to restore a very rare model and make it a pontential show winner. |
