Description:Descriptions from The Vendor: My uncle John was an ex para, member of the SAS and after leaving the para’s provided personal security to the King of Jordan. Later in life he ran a haulage company for a while (always preferring to be underneath the bonnet than in the cab) before building Ulceby Fort Truckstop in Grimsby – always the entrepreneur. A huge character and an even bigger petrol head. At one point he owned 14 motorbikes, a helicopter, numerous cars, trikes and loved to drive or fly anything unusual with an engine! He bought this Mercedes in October 2000 and it was the love of his life. It was parked inside every night, never saw a drop of rain, polished every Sunday, regularly driven with the top down throughout the beautiful Devonshire countryside where he lived. He adored this car and cared for it with passion. It was previously owned by Richard Branson who bought this car for his wife on 26′ April 1987 and she kept it for 2 years. My uncle’s love of cars was equal only to his hatred of paperwork and his lack of organisation in this area means I have limited history other than some MOT’s and historical V5’s. For the last 5 years, the car has been kept in dry storage due to my uncle’s ill health. However, the love affair continued and he would take himself off to the workshop in his wheelchair and go and sit next to the car whilst 1 started it so he could hear her run. She started the first time, every time, never failed and the beautiful sound of her engine brought him so much joy. My uncle John sadly passed away in March of 2021 at the age of 84. During his last days all he worried about was who would look after his beloved Mercedes.
Auctioneer’s notes: A very sad story, this lovely car has been in the vendor’s family for the last 22 years. These 107’s are a superb example of German engineering excellence and being a straight six engine of 2.8 lit you get a fairly good fuel consumption, far better by a mile to the 350 SL Roadsters. She has quite a number of extras which include alloy wheels, electric windows, cruise control, hard top and automatic transmission. This delightful car may be viewed, strictly by appointment. |
