Description:Description from The Vendor: I have owned this beautiful car for 10 years. It looks stunning in chariot red and beige leather interior. The condition of the car does not reflect its age of some 62 years and is a credit to the restorer. The car was restored in 2006-2007. It sits in my heated garage and still takes my breath away whenever I remove the cover. There is considerable documentation with the car, a large photo collection and invoices detailing the restoration, a heritage certificate, and service history, MOTs etc. The car was originally registered in Lyme Regis, Dorset and I believe it has had only 4 owners, the first for some 40 years. The second owner restored the car, the third owner just took it to the occasional show and I am the forth owner. Since my ownership I have treasured the car only taking it out occasionally. I have replaced both front king pin assemblies, replaced the steering column bushes, replaced the fuel line, replaced the radiator, had the twin SU carburettors rebuilt, and had the windscreen replaced due a small scratch. Sadly my health has suffered recently and consequently the car has had little use. I would keep the car but I’m getting older and I am currently in the process of downsizing so garaging will be a problem. I think it is therefore time for the car to have a new owner who will cherish it as I have over the last 10 years. CLICK HERE to see a picture of the car’s photo album
Auctioneer’s notes: It was a great pleasure to drive to Bridport and view this outstanding MGA 1600 which was first registered on 3.1.61. I have 5 files of paperwork on this car. I will start off with the history of all the owners as supplied by DVLA: First Owner purchased the car new on 3.1.61 and disposed of her on 3.3.02 Second Owner from 3.3.02 to 25.9.07 and he was the gentleman who carried out the restoration Third Owner purchased her on 2.11.07 and kept her to 5.7.11 The Vendor of this car purchased her on 15.7.11 In the files you will find the original Maintenance Service Voucher Book, which has 11 stamps and a BMC Passport to Service which has 5 stamps There are old tax discs, old V5’s and numerous MOT’s and importantly you have a BMC Heritage Trust Copy of Factory Records. The invoices show the work carried by B. Trevett & Co.Ltd, Station Rd, Seaton from date of registration to 31st January 1970. Then there is a gap in the paperwork and I can only assume that that file has gone missing, bearing in mind that the first owner had the car until 2002 and the way he kept his records was impeccable. Fast forward to ’02 when the car was purchased by the second owner who carried out the restoration and the invoices are kept in a massive file which show all the parts purchased new for the pending restoration. It is quite eye watering when you look at the cost. Now to the restoration carried out between ’06 and ’07. The body was removed from the chassis, the chassis was shot-blasted and painted and you have a complete photo record kept in a very smart photo album – see appendix 2. The last file was compiled by the vendor and that shows all the work carried out under his ownership..
There is also a road test report carried out by the Motor Sport Magazine, praising the MGA 1600 for its excellent handling and superior brakes as the 1600 had Lockheed Disc Brakes on the front. They go on to say that the engine produces 80 bhp which gives brisk acceleration and capabilities of cruising at 80 miles per hour and will reach 100 mph when required. Finally, she comes with a Driver’s Handbook, Haynes MGA Owners Workshop Manual plus Moss Parts Catalogues. Please book your slot to view this beautiful car.
