MG B GT V8 1973

Description:

Remembering when they first came out in 1973 it was the model to one day hope to own. When this car came on the market as a private sale it ‘hit the spot’, unmolested, low mileage, good provenance and arguably the best colour, even the original foam under the floor mats bears a date stamp from 1973. Because it was such an original car and in such good condition it was chosen to be the V8 featured in Classic & Sports Car, January 2012 edition, when they did a feature tribute article to celebrate ‘MGB at 50’.
The first owner was Kenlowe Accessories Co Ltd, the makers of Kenlow fans. During a call to the company the vendor was told that the car had been Ken Lowe’s son’s company car, family came along so the car was exchanged for something ‘more family friendly’. The sticker in the rear window (Rye Mill Garage) and one key fob are of the garage that then sold the car to its next owner in 1974. The MOT in 1990 bears witness to the mileage of 41690, in March 1991 it was sold to Mr Friend. A personal friend of Mr Clayton (from whom the vendor purchased the car) purchased it as an investment and kept it in storage for the duration of his ownership. Loss of storage brought about the sale in 2010, unfortunately a change in circumstances meant Mr Clayton had to sell the car and the vendor became the lucky new owner, the mileage at that time being 45966.
The vendor was told that due to some surface rust on the outer sills these were replaced during the time Mr Friend owned the car. He was concerned that the inner sills may be deteriorating, they were however found to be in good order.Mainly routine maintenance is all that has been carried out during our ownership other than a change of radiator to one made of aluminium (the original radiator is with the car). The file has been carefully compiled with Heritage Certificate, information from DVLA, MOT’s, tax discs, invoices, pictures, Classic & Sports Car magazine, original handbook and Passport to Service, Diary and various other items all related to this car plus various V8 articles. During the years the vendor has owned this car it has been to many shows (all listed in the Diary) and covered just under 4,000 miles. It has given us a great deal of pleasure but since a house move, as the diary will show, has had very little use. Very reluctantly the vendor decided it was time for a new owner to appreciate and enjoy .. “for us it will probably be a car we wished we had never parted with!”

Auctioneers Notes: We are very lucky to have a number of outstanding cars in our Classic Sale in October and this MGBGT V8 is one of them. She has only covered 49,666 miles from new and she is – and I have to use this word again – quite outstanding. The history file or diary is something to behold. She is truly a beautiful car.
