On the Surface: This 1973 MG Midget is a fantastic example. Manufactured and registered in the UK in 1973 it is finished in the rarer seen Damask Red over a black leather interior. Maintenance & History: Under the custodianship of The Vendor for the past 14 years, this MG Midget has received a full restoration which is documented by photographs within the history file. Also included in the comprehensive history file is a letter from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirming its date of manufacture, old MOT certificates, old tax discs and invoices for parts, labour, and maintenance work totalling over £6,500! The Model: Under the bonnet in the MKIII Midgets lays a 1275cc engine as opposed to the 1099cc lump used in MKII’s and late MKI’s. The 1275 engine in the Midget MKIII is the same as the one issued in the Cooper ‘S’, however, the Midget’s engine is detuned so it does not reach the levels of the more costly Cooper ‘S’. Noteworthy improvements from earlier marks include a separate master cylinder for the clutch and a permanently attached hood with an enhanced mechanism for user-friendly operation. Produced during the years 1972-1974, the round-arch MG Midgets with chrome bumpers are widely regarded as the most desirable. This example rolled out of the Abingdon factory in late early 1973, alonside the other 22,415 crafted between 1966 and the 1969 facelift, and an additional 77,831 rolling off the assembly line up to 1974. Sale Insight: For enthusiasts seeking a fully restored classic roadster for the summer, this 1973 MG Midget presents a great opportunity.
