1974 MG Midget 90,203 (Not Warranted) £3,600 + buyers premium

Description:

In Brief:

  • Owned for the last 20 years
  • Finished in rarer Damask Red
  • Last of the line chrome bumper model
  • Desirable round wheel arch model

On the Surface: This 1974 MG Midget stands as a great representation of the MKIII series, finished in a striking Damask Red exterior paired with a black leather interior. As part of a bereavement sale, it carries a poignant history, having been under the ownership of the current custodian since September 2004, who acquired it for £4,300. Prior to that, a close friend cherished the car from 1995 until 2004.

History: While the available historical documentation is limited to the current and an older V5 document, the vehicle stands as an honest portrayal of a last-of-the-line chrome bumper Midget.

The Model: Under the bonnet, the engine had grown from a 1099cc used in late MKI’s and MKII’s to a 1275 cc, drawing inspiration from the Mini-Cooper ‘S’ development. Noteworthy improvements from earlier marks include a separate master cylinder for the clutch and a permanently attached hood with an enhanced mechanism for user-friendly operation. Produced during the years 1972-1974, the round-arch MG Midgets with chrome bumpers are widely regarded as the epitome of desirability. Born from the Abingdon factory in late 1971, with 22,415 crafted between 1966 and the 1969 facelift, and an additional 77,831 rolling off the assembly line up to 1974.

Sale Insight: This Midget is now ready for a new owner to take it on and show it the same level of care it has received for the last 20 years.
