Description:This matching numbers car left the Abingdon factory on the 8th February 1952 and was sold through University Motors (plaque on dash/UMG number plate) to its first owner on the 10th March of that year. The current owner, a retired engineer, is only the fourth custodian and has owned the car since 2004. This YB was originally black but a previous owner restored the car in 1984-5, at which time the current two-tone grey livery was chosen with charcoal grey interior and wire wheels. A second glass out, bare metal restoration, supported by hundreds of pictures, was completed by the current owner between 2009/12 In addition, the engine was overhauled in 2009 with new clutch, hardened valve seats, a Peter Edney fast road cam and twin 1 ¼” SU carburettors. A brake overhaul was completed last year along with a full service UMG 625 is sold with a history file that any potential buyer should inspect. Containing paperwork that goes back to 1967 and evidence of significant expenditure over recent years the car is now being sold for a fraction of the restoration costs. Auctioneers Notes: A superb example of a YB. I like the two-tone paintwork. It is the first Y series MG I have ever seen fitted with knock-on wire wheels. It really makes the car stand out.
