Description:

In Brief:

  • Desirable home market example
  • Just 4 owners from new
  • Respectable history file detaling all 4 owners
  • MOT’s dating back to 1970

On the Surface: This 1959 Triumph TR3A, owned by The Vendor since October 2019, is a very honest and ‘original feel’ example of the iconic TR3. Finished in red over a black leather interior, it looks fantastic and would stand out amongst other TR3’s. Notably, it comes complete with a hood, side screens, and tonneau cover. Additionally, the inclusion of front ‘Aero screens’ add a different offering to the alternative traditional windscreen.

Maintenance & History: With just four owners over its lifetime, including The Vendor, it comes with a comprehensive history file. Documenting each ownership tenure, the file provides insights into the car’s journey, from its first owner, Mr. R Adams, to its current custodian. Notable inclusions are old MOT certificates, dating back to 1970, and invoices totaling approximately £500 for various parts. The car’s lineage is well-documented, with its first owner, Mr. R Adams, cherishing it for 20 years before passing it on to Mr. N Twilton in 1979. Mr. Twilton, in turn, enjoyed being custodian for an impressive 36 years until 2015 when Mr. Wheadon took ownership for a brief four-year period. Finally, The Vendor acquired the car in 2019. Noteworthy is a letter dated 29/05/1979, confirming the sale from Mr. Adams to Mr. Twilton for some £450.

The Model: Introduced in 1957 as an update to the TR3, the Triumph “TR3A” is named as such due to it’s enhanced features, including a full-width front grille and exterior door handles. Renowned for its superior braking ability and autocross prowess, the TR3A was loved for it’s performance and style. Production spanned from 1957 to 1962, with a total of 58,236 cars manufactured. However, only a fraction, estimated at 9,500, survive today, with merely 1,000 registered to UK roads. What makes this car even more desirable is the overdrive feature which is much sought after by enthusasts allowing higher speed driving to be more comfortable.

Sale Insight: The Vendor has decided to part ways with this TR3A after 5 years of ownership, now offering enthusiasts the opportunity to own this lovely example.
