A pleasingly original-feeling example of the Morris A60 ½ Ton Pick-Up. Finished in Black over a Black interior, this example has been in the ownership of The Vendor for the last three years and has had just three former keepers.

Maintenance & Condition:

The vehicle is accompanied by a selection of invoices for parts and maintenance, offering a useful record of upkeep over the years. As with many classic commercial vehicles, its honest presentation reflects a life of practical use, yet examples such as this remain highly appealing for their character and straightforward mechanical design.

History:

Supporting the vehicle is a good history file including invoices for parts and maintenance, a parts catalogue, and a Half-Ton Van & Pickup Driver’s Handbook. Also included is a Morris ½ Ton Van & Pickup sales brochure. Adding a touch of period curiosity, a Golden Wonder crisp packet dating from around 1976 was discovered under the driver’s seat and has been retained within the file as a quirky reminder of the vehicle’s working past.

The Model:

Half-ton commercial vehicles based on the A55 platform were first introduced in 1957, with the van arriving in February followed by pick-up, chassis and cab, and chassis and scuttle variants shortly afterwards. Contemporary sales literature referred to them as the “Austin ½ Ton Van and Pick-Up.” In October 1962 the range was updated with a restyled front end, revised bumpers, chrome side mouldings, 14-inch wheels, and various interior refinements, while Morris-badged versions of the van and pick-up were also introduced. From September 1963 these commercial models adopted the 1,622cc engine from the Austin A60 saloon, providing dependable power and durability. Production continued until 1973.
