Buying a Car

At SWVA we sell thousands of cars every year. Our weekly car auctions generally have over 150 vehicles for sale, sourced from a wide range of main dealerships and some private sales.

Our car auctions provide the perfect opportunity for car dealers and traders to obtain stock for their forecourt, or for individual buyers to purchase a car (generally at below forecourt value).

Our professional auctioneering team gives an assessment and guide valuation using the NAMA grading system, which means you can buy with confidence.

Our used car auctions are held every Friday at 11am, with viewing available beforehand. Every auction has a full catalogue of vehicles, with photos, descriptions, and a guide price. Check our website for live catalogue and auction updates.

Buying a used car at auction could not be simpler. The first step is to register with us. Once registered you can bid at auction. We require a secure deposit of £500 to register as a public buyer.

For traders we offer the opportunity to register an account with our trusted finance partners.  Find out more here

For your convenience you do not have to attend the auction in person. We have a LiveBid system enabling you to watch and join physical auctions* whilst bidding from anywhere with an internet connection. (Pre-registration is required). *Service available to trade clients only on car and commercial auctions, and members of the public for classic car auctions.

During the auction, each vehicle is driven through the hall with the car details displayed on video screen together with real time bid values. This is simultaneously viewable via LiveBid.

Payment & Buyers Fee

Once the hammer falls you have entered a legal contract to purchase the vehicle. All payments must be made via BANK TRANSFER ONLY and must be made within 48 hours of the auction.*

A buyers fee of 10% + VAT (with a minimum payment of £125 +VAT for vehicles sold for less than £1000). This indemnifies you against any vehicle bought at SWVA being stolen property, or subject to outstanding hire purchase payments. The purchase fee is not refundable.

Once funds are cleared you may take the vehicle away. We also offer a delivery service. Please ask for details.

* Please note that if vehicles are not paid for/collected within 48 hours a holding fee of £15 per day will be charged. A longer period is permitted for collection of classic cars.

If payment is refused following a successful bid (online or in the hall) your account with SWVA will be closed with no further buying permitted.

Timed Auctions

Missed a car auction? You can still bid for unsold lots with our weekend timed auctions.

This is your opportunity to leisurely browse and bid in your own time without the pressure of a live auction.
Unsold cars will be listed for timed auction following the close of our Friday car sale, with bidding closing the following Monday at 4pm.

You can place your bids at any time between 4pm on Friday and 4pm on Monday. When the timed auction ends the highest bid that meets or exceeds the reserve price will be subject to acceptance by the vendor.

Successful bidders will be notified with payment and collection required within 2 working days.
