On the Surface:

A top example of Triumph’s ever-popular Spitfire 1500, this charming sports car is finished in a period shade of Maple Brown over a Beige leather interior. The car presents beautifully throughout and benefits from the addition of its factory hardtop. Sitting proudly on its polished wheels and complemented by twin Notek spot lamps, this Spitfire is a real head-turner.

Maintenance & History:

First registered in December 1975, MHK 569P has covered a believed genuine 49,577 miles and has had just four owners in the past 34 years. A previous lady owner acquired the car in 1991, using it sparingly before placing it into dry storage in 1995 with 42,000 miles recorded. It was recommissioned and resprayed in Maple Brown in 2010. The previous owner, a retired barrister, enjoyed the car mainly during the summer months of his eight-year tenure. A large history file accompanies the car, containing many invoices, photographs, and MOT certificates dating back to 1988. Naturally, it is tax-exempt thanks to its 1975 build date.

Mechanically, the car has been thoroughly maintained and sympathetically improved over the years. It has received a new clutch (2014), a twin stainless steel exhaust system (2015), uprated brake calipers and pads, new gas shocks and springs, and a replacement steering rack. Further enhancements include Lumenition electronic ignition, a Revotec electric cooling fan, alloy rocker cover and a battery cut-off switch. New seals have been fitted around the windows and door closings, ensuring a well-sorted and watertight example. The car will also be supplied with a selection of spare parts, including new drop glass, HT leads and door seals.

The Model:

Introduced in 1962, the Triumph Spitfire was born out of the success of the Sprite and Midget, offering elegant Michelotti styling atop a modified Triumph Herald chassis. The later Spitfire 1500, introduced in 1974, brought significant improvements including a 1,493cc engine producing more torque and capable of over 100mph, along with refined rear suspension that greatly enhanced handling. The MkIV restyle brought a cleaner, more modern look, aligning it visually with the larger Triumph Stag and 2000 models. With overdrive on third and top gear, the 1500 offered genuine long-distance comfort and performance.

Sale Insight:

A truly cherished and well-presented Spitfire 1500, this example stands out for its history and condition. Offered with desirable factory hardtop, overdrive gearbox and numerous tasteful upgrades, it represents one of the finer examples on the market.
