A light project example of Wolseley’s flagship Farina-bodied saloon, this 16/60 offers an excellent basis for improvement. Finished in Teal Blue over a newly retrimmed Blue interior, it presents in average condition overall, with cosmetic attention and mechanical recommissioning likely required. In the ownership of The Vendor’s late husband for over a decade, it was last used in spring 2025 before being laid up due to ill health.
The car starts, runs and drives but would benefit from a methodical once-over before returning to regular use. Externally, some cosmetic work is expected, while the fresh interior trim provides a pleasant contrast to the project nature of the car's exterior. As with many long-stored classics, recommissioning of brakes, fuel system and general service items should be anticipated.
Accompanied by a decent history file, the Wolseley comes with a selection of old MOT certificates, tax discs and various invoices. Recently transferred into The Vendor’s name, the car had previously been in her late husband’s custodianship for more than ten years.
Produced from 1961 to 1971, the Wolseley 16/60 sat at the top of BMC’s Farina-styled range. It featured the smooth 1622cc B-Series engine, wider tracks than its predecessor and a slightly longer wheelbase, offering refined, quiet cruising. Appointed more luxuriously than its Austin and Morris siblings, the 16/60 was distinguished by its walnut dashboard, leather seating and distinctive illuminated Wolseley grille badge.
The 16/60 remains a charming and usable British classic. With its fresh interior, long-term ownership and straightforward project status, this example offers an appealing opportunity for enthusiasts seeking a rewarding winter recommissioning project or an accessible entry into Wolseley ownership.
