Auctioneer's Notes:

A beautiful example of the desirable manual Series II 2+2 E-Type, finished in Black over a Dark Blue leather interior. This is a genuine home-market, right-hand-drive example, supplied new by Henlys of London. The Vendor has owned the car for the last 10 years, with just two owners recorded during the past 20 years and eight former keepers in total. It retains its original-style steel chrome wheels, which are now wrapped in four new tyres. With its elegant colour combination, manual gearbox and strong provenance, this presents as a particularly appealing example of one of Britain’s most recognisable sporting grand tourers.

Maintenance & Condition:

The car is accompanied by an extensive collection of invoices for parts, servicing and maintenance, amounting to approximately £16,000. Four new tyres have recently been fitted to the original-style steel chrome wheels. The substantial history file suggests careful and continued expenditure over the years, with maintenance documentation spanning a considerable period of the car’s life.

History:

The accompanying history file is a major feature of this E-Type and includes its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, confirming its provenance as a genuine home-market right-hand-drive car supplied new by Henlys of London. Also included is a specialist valuation from 2018 placing the car at £75,000, together with the purchase invoice from when The Vendor acquired the vehicle in 2016 for £63,354.

Further documentation includes previous registration documents, MOT certificates dating back to 1980 and a substantial collection of invoices for servicing, maintenance and parts totalling around £16,000. With The Vendor having owned the car for the last decade, and only two owners recorded in the last 20 years, the file provides an unusually comprehensive picture of its more recent custodianship.

The Model:

Introduced in 1968, the Series II represented an evolution of Jaguar’s celebrated E-Type, retaining the 4.2-litre twin-cam XK straight-six engine while incorporating a number of detail improvements and revisions. The 2+2 version had first appeared during Series I production and was designed to broaden the E-Type’s grand-touring appeal. Its wheelbase was lengthened by approximately nine inches, with a raised roofline, longer doors and foldable rear seating providing considerably greater practicality than the two-seat Fixed Head Coupé. The folding rear seat also created a useful extended luggage area, making the 2+2 particularly suited to longer-distance touring. Series II production totalled 18,809 cars, of which 5,326 were 2+2 models, with only 1,040 produced in right-hand-drive form.

Sale Insight:

A manual, home-market right-hand-drive Series II 2+2 with long-term ownership, attractive Black over Dark Blue presentation and a genuinely impressive supporting history file. It's Heritage Certificate, decades of MOT history, substantial maintenance invoices, specialist valuation and documented 2016 purchase all add considerable confidence to the car’s provenance. Combined with its recent tyres and comparatively settled ownership history, this is an especially well-documented example with strong appeal for both collectors and enthusiasts seeking a usable E-Type grand tourer.
