The Model:

Introduced in 1971, the Land Rover Series III carried forward much of the proven design of the preceding Series IIA, retaining the same broad body and engine options, including station wagons and One-Ton versions. Little changed cosmetically from the IIA to the Series III, with the wing-mounted headlights adopted on late Series IIA models remaining in place, while the traditional metal grille of the Series I, II and IIA was replaced by a plastic item. The 2.25-litre engine had its compression raised from 7:1 to 8:1, increasing power slightly, and the Series III went on to become the most common Series Land Rover, with around 440,000 examples built between 1971 and 1985. During Series III production, the 1,000,000th Land Rover rolled off the production line in 1976.
