A cracking example of a Rover-badged Mini City E, this 1991 model is finished in Red with a Light Grey interior. It is in original condition, boasting all of it's factory-fitted body panels and believed to retain its original paintwork — a rare and impressive feat for an unrestored Mini of this era.
This Mini City E has had just two former keepers from new. Initially registered to the Rover Group in June 1991, it is believed to have served as a demonstrator car. Just three months later, it was sold to its second owner, who cherished the car until 2009 when it was acquired by The Vendor. The car comes with a solid history file that includes the original Rover handbook wallet containing the Owner's Handbook, Service Record book, In-Car Entertainment Guide, and Dealership Directory. Also present is the original purchase invoice from June 1991, confirming a sale price of £4,700 and a full MOT certificate archive. This example has been off the road and on SORN since 2016 and always garaged when not in use. The mileage currently stands at 22,752, which is believed to be correct based on a full service history write-up detailing mileage at each interval, although there are insufficient invoices on file to fully warrant this.
Introduced in April 1982, the Mini City E replaced the previous base-level City with a more fuel-efficient engine, producing 40 hp at 5,000 rpm thanks to a higher compression ratio and longer final drive. Subtle design cues, such as the omission of side trims and simple “City” badging, marked it out as the entry-level model. Though the City E officially ended production in 1988, Rover continued to use the badging into the early 1990s. By then, updates such as 12-inch wheels and a two-part instrument cluster had modernised the driving experience while retaining the Mini’s unmistakable look and feel.
Offered for sale after 16 years of ownership, this Mini City E presents a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully original and minimally owned example of a iconic British classic.
