In Brief:

  • A typically rugged example of a 109" Series IIA
  • Finsihed in Blue with Black seats
  • Owned by The Vendor for the last 6 years
  • 'Nut & bolt' rebuild undertaken - photos on file

Auctioneer's Notes:

A rugged example of a 1965 Land Rover Series IIA 109", representing one of the most recognisable British utility vehicles. With its longer 109-inch wheelbase, purposeful stance and unmistakable Series IIA styling, this example carries all the charm and rugged appeal that has made the model such a firm favourite with collectors, enthusiasts and those seeking a truly usable classic 4x4.

Maintenance & Condition:

The history file includes invoices for notable mechanical work carried out in 2021, including attention to the cylinder block, crankshaft, pistons and bearings, together with the supply and fitting of liners. This suggests that meaningful work has been undertaken to the engine’s core components, an important consideration on a vehicle of this age and type. While a good amount of work has clearly been completed, the bodywork and paintwork would benefit from some tidying and cosmetic attention. As a historic vehicle, it is now both tax and MOT exempt.

History:

Accompanying the vehicle is a file containing printed images documenting the restoration process, referred to as a "nut-and-bolt rebuild" by The Vendor. These photographs provide a useful visual record of the work undertaken and add welcome provenance to the Land Rover’s story. The paperwork also includes invoices relating to the engine work completed in 2021, further supporting the vehicle’s maintenance history.

The Model:

Introduced as part of Land Rover’s hugely successful Series IIA range, the 109" model offered greater carrying capacity and practicality than its shorter-wheelbase counterpart, making it a favourite with farmers, tradesmen, military users and explorers alike. Built around a heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis and clothed in aluminium-alloy Birmabright bodywork, the Series IIA became renowned for its mechanical simplicity, durability and ability to tackle demanding terrain. Available in a variety of configurations, the 109" remains one of the most versatile and iconic classic Land Rovers.

Sale Insight:

Series IIA Land Rovers continue to enjoy strong demand thanks to their usability, parts availability and timeless appeal. This 1965 109" example, with restoration photographs and supporting invoices for significant engine work, offers an appealing opportunity to acquire a true British workhorse with documented previous attention. Whether enjoyed as a practical classic, weekend companion or addition to a Land Rover collection, it presents as a highly evocative example of one of Britain’s most celebrated 4x4s.
