Auctioneer's Notes:

A particularly well-documented example of Porsche's transaxle-era 924, showing 89,200 miles and accompanied by an extensive history file. The Vendor purchased the car through our April 2018 Classic Auction, Lot 67, and advises that they are the third owners, the previous keeper having owned the Porsche for some 33 years.

The Vendor reports that the mileage is supported by the history on file and that the car has covered only approximately 7,500 miles over the last 20 years. Always garaged during their ownership, the bodywork and interior are described as sound and largely original, with only minor age-related blemishes. Of particular note is the dashboard, which remains in excellent condition and free from the cracking so commonly encountered on 924 and 944 models.

Maintenance & Condition:

The Vendor advises that the Porsche has been maintained regardless of cost. During their ownership, work has included replacement of the head gasket, recoring of the radiator, a new water pump, hoses and belts, together with overhaul work to the fuel-injection and ignition systems.

The five 'Turbo' style wheels have also been refurbished and fitted with new tyres. Although now MOT exempt under its Historic Vehicle status, the car continues to hold a current MOT valid until August 2027.

History:

The accompanying history file is particularly comprehensive. The Vendor reports that it contains invoices and MOT documentation supporting the car's mileage from early in its life, while the physical file includes extensive invoice history dating back to 1986 and MOT certificates dating from 1987.

Also present are old registration documents, taxation paperwork and documentation relating to a registration-number transfer, together with the SWVA catalogue from its April 2018 sale. The file is further supplemented by period and modern printed information relating to the 924, technical sheets covering the K-Jetronic fuel-injection system and a Haynes Owner's Workshop Manual.

The original Driver's Manual and Servicing Record is present with 13 service stamps, alongside a Pocket Guide to Porsche Ownership, service directory and operating manuals for the alarm and radio systems.

The Model:

Introduced as Porsche's entry-level sports car, the 924 adopted a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with the gearbox mounted at the rear as part of its transaxle arrangement. This configuration gave the model notably balanced handling and helped distinguish it from more conventional contemporary sports coupés.

The naturally aspirated 924 was powered by a 1,984cc four-cylinder engine producing approximately 125 bhp, coupled in this specification to a five-speed manual transmission. Its combination of practicality, distinctive styling and Porsche chassis engineering made the 924 an important model in the company's development during the late 1970s and 1980s.

Sale Insight:

With long-term previous ownership, modest use in recent decades and an unusually comprehensive supporting history, this 924 offers considerably more provenance than many surviving examples. Its largely original presentation, excellent dashboard, recent mechanical expenditure and continuous documentary record should make it particularly appealing to buyers seeking an honest and well-cared-for example rather than a heavily restored car.
