A truly exceptional 1981 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur I, presented in stunning Georgian Silver with a Black Everflex roof over a St James Red leather interior, beautifully accented with Slate piping. This example has covered an incredibly low 6,315 miles from new, making it one of the most low mileage and well-preserved examples available.
Supplied new by the prestigious H.R. Owen Ltd in 1981, the logbook states that this Silver Spur has remained in the care of its first and only registered keeper—a distinguished Nigerian lawyer who divided his time between Nigeria and the UK. The car’s history file is extensive, featuring MOT certificates dating back to 1998, copies of the original build sheets and the complete Rolls-Royce book pack, which includes the Owner’s Handbook, Supplement and Service Book. Additionally, the file contains a Queste Rolls-Royce & Bentley magazine and original accessories, including the wooden facia for the radio and a tape player that has been modified for CDs. This Silver Spur has been meticulously maintained by Rolls-Royce main dealers and marque specialists, with a comprehensive service history displayed in the original service book. It contains 11 official service stamps and an additional handwritten entry, with servicing carried out in 1982 at 1,020 miles, 1983 at 1,815 miles, 1991 at 2,407 miles, 1994 at 3,749 miles, 1996 at 4,008 miles, 1998 at 4,040 miles, 1999 at 4,814 miles, 2000 at 5,022 miles, 2013 at 6,206 miles, 2017 at 6,206 miles, 2019 at 6,206 miles and 2025 at 6,303 miles. The file also includes nearly £11,000 in invoices for maintenance and servicing, including a significant £3,000 body repair by The Chelsea Workshop in 2019 at 3,206 miles - the vehicle was supposedly in storage with The Chelsea Workshop at this time which may explain why that mileage read 6,206 for 3 successive services in 2013, 2017 and 2019.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is the long-wheelbase variant of the Silver Spirit, offering increased rear passenger comfort and luxury. Introduced in 1980, the model carried forward the legendary 6.75L L410 V8 engine from the Silver Shadow, paired with a GM-sourced THM400 3-speed automatic gearbox and it was the first Rolls-Royce to feature the retractable Spirit of Ecstasy. With a focus on supreme ride quality, the Silver Spur retained the hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension of its predecessor, enhanced with a Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control system and gas-charged shock absorbers. A total of 6,238 examples were produced between 1980 and 1989.
This example has to be viewed to be appreciated to the maximum. Opportunities to acquire a Rolls-Royce in such fantastic condition with remarkably low mileage and impeccable provenance are very rare indeed. With single-registered ownership from new and a comprehensive history file, this car is an ideal addition to any serious collection or an exceptional luxury classic to enjoy. Whether for investment or pleasure, this is a Silver Spur that truly stands out.
