A superb opportunity to acquire one of the very last MG B GTs ever produced, this 1981 Limited Edition example is finished in the correct and highly distinctive Pewter Metallic and represents the ultimate evolution of the classic Abingdon-built GT. Offered from a bereavement sale, the car was owned by the Vendor’s late husband for the last 2–3 years and remains a striking, well-presented example of this increasingly collectable final-edition model.
While there is no documented history accompanying the car, it presents very well in both appearance and overall condition. These final-series cars benefited from the most developed form of the MGB platform, and this example offers a smart, ready-to-enjoy classic with strong visual appeal.
The MG formed part of a private collection and was kept by the Vendor’s late husband for the last few years. It is now being offered as part of an estate sale. Although no service records are supplied, its condition suggests careful ownership and sympathetic use during its recent custodianship.
The MG B GT Limited Edition was produced as a farewell to MG’s historic Abingdon factory, closing in 1980 after more than 50 years of sports-car production. Just around 580 GT LEs were built, making them among the rarest of all MGB variants. Finished exclusively in Pewter Metallic, they featured distinctive alloy wheels, front air dam, special badging and silver-grey interior trim. Powered by the familiar 1.8-litre B-Series engine with twin SU carburettors, the LE combined classic MG character with the most refined specification of the model’s long and successful production run.
With values of special-edition MGBs continuing to rise, genuine GT LE models are particularly sought after due to their rarity and historic significance as the final chapter of Abingdon production. This well-presented example represents an excellent opportunity to secure a collectible and usable classic MG with long-term appeal.
