This 1962 Rover P4 100 presents as a straightforward, honest example of one of Rover’s post-war saloons. Finished in Black with Red leather upholstery, it has all the hallmarks of a usable, well-loved P4 that would respond well to further cosmetic improvement. A late production example ready to be enjoyed as is or taken to the next level by its next custodian.
The car is in usable condition, starting, running and driving, with both the interior and exterior offering scope for enhancement should the buyer wish to elevate it into a very smart example. The upholstery shows age consistent with its years, and the paintwork would benefit from attention, making this an ideal light-restoration candidate.
Bought by The Vendor’s late husband in 2023 and transferred into The Vendor’s name in October 2025, the Rover has had just five former keepers. The history file includes old MOT certificates, tax discs, period invoices and, importantly, the original buff logbook — a lovely piece of documentation that adds to the car’s provenance.
The Rover P4 series occupied a distinctive place in the British motoring landscape from 1949 to 1964. Designed by Gordon Bashford, these elegant saloons offered understated luxury with traditional English craftsmanship. The 100, announced in 1959, featured the seven-bearing 2.6-litre IOE straight-six capable of reaching 100 mph, along with a refined cabin of wood and leather and front servo-assisted Girling disc brakes. Well respected in period, P4s were favoured by royalty and public figures alike — earning the affectionate nickname ‘Auntie Rover’. 16,521 examples were built between 1959 and 1962.
The P4 100 remains one of the more desirable and usable variants in the range. This example, complete with valuable original documentation and offering plenty of opportunity for improvement, could prove a rewarding and relatively accessible entry into classic Rover ownership.
