A quite outstanding example of an FB-generation Vauxhall VX 4/90, presented in exceptional condition throughout. Finished in an attractive shade of Green over a Cream leather interior, this is a UK home-market car with just three former keepers recorded. Benefitting from a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration and retaining its original 1963 registration number, this example is believed to be one of only three FB-series VX 4/90s remaining on UK roads.
The car has been fully restored at a cost exceeding £40,000 by the renowned specialists Heritage Classics of Teesside, with the quality of workmanship evidenced by a gold plaque under the bonnet bearing their name. Every component, both mechanically and cosmetically has been refurbished to the highest standard, resulting in a car that presents superbly inside and outside. A comprehensive photographic record of the restoration accompanies the vehicle, and since completion it has been kept in a private collection/museum environment, preserving its outstanding condition.
Registered new in 1963, this VX 4/90 remains on its original registration number and has clearly enjoyed a careful and well-documented life. With only three former keepers and an extensive photographic restoration file, the car offers excellent provenance. Post-restoration, use has been minimal, ensuring that the quality of the work carried out has been maintained to an exceptional level.
The FB-series Vauxhall, announced on 14 September 1960 and produced until 1964, featured cleaner styling and notably improved rust protection over earlier models. The sporting VX 4/90, introduced in October 1961, represented the performance flagship of the range. Power came from a 1.5-litre or 1.6-litre engine fitted with twin carburettors, a taller alloy cylinder head, high-compression expansion-controlled pistons and a nitrided EN19B steel crankshaft, producing 71 bhp. Servo-assisted front disc brakes (shared with the Cresta), a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox, full instrumentation including a mechanically driven tachometer, individual front bucket seats and distinctive exterior detailing set it apart from the standard FB Victor. The VX 4/90 was offered only as a saloon and is now one of the rarest post-war sporting Vauxhalls.
With its rarity, impeccable restoration and outstanding presentation, this VX 4/90 represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the very best examples available.
