In Brief:

  • A cracking example of a usable classic commercial
  • Finished in Red over a Black interior
  • Just 1 former keeper
  • Benefits from restoration and recommisisoning over the last 10 years
  • Good history and backstory

Auctioneer’s Notes:

A wonderfully presented example of the increasingly rare Bedford HA 6cwt, finished in Red. Having benefitted from comprehensive recommissioning across its most recent ownerships, this example now presents in near spotless condition throughout, offering a superb opportunity to acquire a usable classic light commercial.

Maintenance & Condition:

The Vendor has completed the recommissioning works, building on restoration efforts started by the previous owner. This has resulted in a notably well-presented example, with invoices supplied to support parts fitted during the process. The paintwork remains in excellent order, while the interior has been enhanced with new carpets throughout, improving the overall presentation. The van now offers a clean, tidy and highly usable condition.

History:

This Bedford benefits from just 1 former keeper from new. The first owner retained the vehicle from 1978 until 2014, using it solely for commercial purposes as a painter and decorator. It was then acquired by the second owner, who began the process of recommissioning and restoration. The Vendor has since completed these works to bring the van to its present standard. Accompanying the vehicle is its original handbook, complete with two early service stamps from 1978, along with the original Bedford dealer location guide. A collection of original and photocopied tax discs further supports its history and authenticity.

The Model:

The Bedford HA 6cwt (HAE) is a classic British light panel van, derived from the Vauxhall Viva HB platform and powered by a 1256cc petrol engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. With a capacity of around 300kg, these rugged rear-wheel-drive vans became a familiar sight across the UK, widely used by organisations such as British Telecom and the GPO. Surviving examples in this sort of condition are now increasingly scarce.

Sale Insight:

With its low ownership, working history and recommissioning across its most recent custodians, this Bedford HA represents an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts seeking a classic commercial vehicle.
