An absolutely cracking example of the rarely seen Rover P2 16 HP Sports Saloon, this 1937 model is finished in Black over a patinated but tidy Blue leather interior. Benefitting from striking Art Deco styling, typical of the era it is fitted with its original Ace wheel covers, spinners and spats.
First registered on 2nd January 1937, this P2 is a true survivor with just one former keeper prior to The Vendor, who has owned the car for the past nine years. It is accompanied by three original buff log books, further supporting its well-documented provenance. This is a rare chance to own an unrestored pre-war Rover with exceptional originality and historical continuity. Mechanically and structurally excellent, this Rover has never seen a welding torch or body filler according to The Vendor. It has matching chassis and engine numbers, a clear indicator of its originality. The Phillips value car radio, fitted from new, has been professionally reconditioned and is fully functional with an appropriate aerial. Even more uniquely, the radio’s steering column-mounted remote controls—manufactured in Belgium in 1936—are still present. The carburettor has been restored by Burlen (Salisbury), and the original key still operates the ignition and all locks.
The Rover 16 HP was introduced in 1936 as part of the Rover P2 range, a successor to the Rover Meteor 16. Produced until 1940 and briefly resumed post-war, the P2 16 was a medium-sized family car with refined mechanicals and advanced styling. The Sports Saloon variant—distinguished by its longer bonnet, shorter cabin, and four-window layout—offered a sportier silhouette compared to the six-window standard saloon. The design reflects the peak of Art Deco influence in British motoring.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuinely untouched and highly original 1937 Rover P2 16 HP Sports Saloon, an example that stands out not only for its design pedigree but also for its exceptional state of preservation. For collectors who value originality, period-correct features and pre-war styling, this is an unrepeatable offering.
