Auctioneer’s Notes:

A great example of the rarely seen and wonderfully quirky BMW C1:, finished in Red with a Black seat. This distinctive enclosed scooter has been owned by The Vendor for the past 18 years and shows 6 former keepers. Unusually well-equipped, it benefits from leather seating which was completed in Paris along with a surgical foam gel seat insert to enhance comfort. The scooter is also fitted with the rare wind deflector kit both top and bottom, improving protection from the elements and is supplied with its own storage box, making it more practical.

Maintenance & Condition:

This C1 presents as a well-kept example and is accompanied by a small history file which includes a number of old MOT certificates and an invoice. The upgraded seating and wind deflector kit further enhance usability and rider comfort, demonstrating thoughtful ownership over the years.

History:

Having remained with the current owner for nearly two decades, this BMW C1 has clearly been enjoyed and retained as an interesting and practical form of transport.

The Model:

The BMW C1 was an innovative enclosed scooter manufactured by Bertone for BMW and introduced in 2000. Designed to offer far greater safety than a conventional scooter, the C1 featured a rigid safety cell, roof structure and a car-style seat complete with four-point seat belt. The rider adopts a feet-forward driving position, while the enclosed design provides significant protection from the weather. Although technically advanced and ahead of its time, sales of the C1: were not great and the model was discontinued in 2002, making surviving examples an unusual sight on today’s roads.

Sale Insight:

With its long-term ownership, desirable wind deflector kit, upgraded Paris-trimmed leather seating and comfort-enhancing gel seat insert, this BMW C1 represents a chance to own one of BMW’s most unusual modern creations.
