Presented in period-correct Russet Brown over a Chestnut interior, this 1979 Triumph Dolomite Sprint is a great and highly presentable example of the now sought-after sporting saloon. Complemented by tasteful upgrades including K&N air filters (with original airbox included), stainless steel exhaust, and high-torque starter motor.
Delivered new as a home market RHD car to Bell's Garage, Churchfields, Kidderminster, this Dolomite Sprint has been owned by The Vendor since 2011. Over the past 14 years, it has undertaken numerous long-distance classic tours across France, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands without issue. Accompanying paperwork includes a BMI Heritage Trust Certificate, MOT certificates dating back to 1997 and a substantial file of invoices documenting it's upkeep. This example benefits from a comprehensive restoration carried out in 2008, which included attention to the bodywork, a reconditioned engine and overhauled mechanical systems. It is also understood that SuperFlex bushes, copper brake pipes and fuel lines were fitted during the restoration. More recently, the car received a brake overhaul in 2020, and in 2023 it was treated to a new clutch, slave cylinder, connecting pipe/hose, replacement offside brake caliper and two new tyres. It also benefits from electronic ignition.
Unveiled in 1973, the Triumph Dolomite Sprint represented a significant leap in performance for the British marque. In collaboration with Harry Mundy and Coventry Climax, Triumph developed a 2.0-litre slant-four engine with a 16-valve cylinder head—a world first in mass-produced vehicles—and an output of 127 bhp. This advanced design delivered a 0–60 time faster than many of its European rivals, including the BMW 528i and Mazda RX-7. Fitted from new with factory Sundym glass, overdrive, inertia reel seatbelts, headrests and a laminated windscreen.
With it's restored condition, thoughtful upgrades, excellent provenance and long-term ownership, this 1979 Triumph Dolomite Sprint offers a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most technically innovative British sports saloons of its era.
