Auctioneer’s Notes:

A charming and well-presented example of the final evolution of MG’s much-loved lightweight sports car, this 1976 MG Midget 1500 is finished in Damask Red over a Black interior with matching soft top. Owned by the current keeper for the past four years, it also features period-correct Rostyle wheels and removed factory rubber bumpers which gives the car a ‘road-race’ aesthetic.

Maintenance & Condition:

The car presents as a tidy and well-cared-for example, supported by recent servicing. Works carried out include replacement coil plug leads, points, condenser and distributor cap, along with a fresh oil and filter change. The overall impression is of a mechanically maintained classic ready to be enjoyed, with a history file containing MOT certificates, invoices and MG Owners’ Club magazines adding reassurance for the next custodian.

History:

Supplied with a collection of paperwork, this Midget benefits from documented maintenance alongside enthusiast-related material, reflecting attentive ownership. Having spent the last four years with its current keeper, it has clearly been enjoyed as intended — a usable and characterful classic sports car.

The Model:

Produced from 1961 to 1979, the MG Midget is one of Britain’s most recognisable small sports cars, reviving a historic MG nameplate dating back to pre-war models. The 1500 variant arrived in 1974 and marked the final chapter of production. It introduced the 1,493cc Standard SC engine from the Triumph Spitfire, paired with a full-synchromesh gearbox, offering improved torque and drivability. Despite similar headline horsepower figures to earlier versions, the additional torque delivered stronger real-world performance, enabling 0–60 mph in around 12 seconds and a top speed just over 100 mph.

Sale Insight:

This example benefits from desirable cosmetic touches, recent servicing and supporting history, making it an appealing entry into classic sports car ownership — equally suited to weekend outings , shows or spirited driving.
