A well-presented 1956 Morris Minor Series II four-door Saloon, registered on 7th July 1956 and having had just two former keepers. The car has been the subject of extensive restoration and recommissioning work, with the Vendor estimating around £2,000 spent on parts and approximately £8,000 on work overall. Now registered as a Historic Vehicle and accompanied by a current MOT valid until April 2027, it is offered by its retired owner as part of a reduction of his classic car collection.
The restoration has been comprehensive, with work reported to include an engine overhaul, complete brake overhaul, replacement clutch, radiator, exhaust system, alternator, water pump, fuel tank and fuel lines, SU fuel pump, wheel oil seals, track rod ends and front suspension poly bushes. New front and rear screen rubbers, a replacement headlining, wiring loom and various electrical components have also been fitted. The accompanying specialist invoice details extensive mechanical and electrical work, including carburettor, ignition and distributor attention, a replacement braided wiring loom and fuse box, water pump and alternator conversion work, roof lining installation and numerous smaller repairs; this particular invoice alone totals £4,583.69. Since completion of the main restoration, further work has included wheel alignment/tracking, another fuel pump, front bushes, rocker rail attention and cleaning of the carburettors. The Vendor advises that some further attention to the suspension should be expected.
The Morris is accompanied by an extensive and particularly well-organised history file documenting the restoration and expenditure, together with a previous registration document from a former keeper and a surviving tax disc dating from 1992. The specialist documentation identifies the car as registration RUY 989 and records a mileage of 41,053 during restoration work undertaken in 2025. The Vendor's notes also record the presence of the spare wheel, jack, wheelbrace and starting handle in the boot.
Designed by Alec Issigonis, the Morris Minor became one of Britain's most recognisable post-war family cars, combining compact dimensions with good interior space, light rack-and-pinion steering and independent torsion-bar front suspension. This July 1956 example belongs to the Series II generation, powered by the 803cc A-Series four-cylinder engine and retaining the distinctive split windscreen that characterised Minors prior to the introduction of the Morris 1000 later that year.
With only two former keepers, extensive restoration expenditure and a large, carefully organised paperwork file, this Series II offers plenty of appeal as an approachable 1950s British classic. Significant mechanical, electrical and cosmetic recommissioning has already been undertaken, while prospective buyers should factor in that further suspension work is likely to be required.
