A decent example of the ever-desirable Jaguar Mk II, this 1961 car is fitted with the range-topping 3.8-litre XK engine. Finished in its original colour scheme elegant Opalescent Silver Grey over a Dark Blue leather interior. The Vendor has owned the vehicle for the last 10 years and, remarkably, it has had just three former keepers. This example is confirmed by its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate as an original home market, right-hand drive manual car with overdrive.
The engine has benefitted from a rebuild which included the installation of new liners and Mahle pistons. During this work the rear crank seal area was machined and fitted with a modern seal, a worthwhile improvement often carried out to reduce oil leaks associated with the original design. The car is supported by a substantial quantity of invoices for parts, servicing and maintenance accumulated over the years.
Accompanying the car is a fantastic history file. This includes the original buff logbook, old V5 documents, details of former keepers and a large collection of invoices for maintenance and servicing. Literature included with the car features a Jaguar Spares Division Service Manual, a Jaguar Saloons Haynes Manual and a Jaguar parts catalogue. The original Jaguar bookpack is also present, containing the Sales & Service for the UK booklet and the Mk II 3.8 Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook. A Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate further confirms the vehicle’s original specification and colour scheme.
Introduced in 1959, the Jaguar Mark 2 was a development of the earlier Mark 1 saloon and quickly became one of the most celebrated sporting saloons of its era. Built in Coventry until 1967, it perfectly embodied Sir William Lyons’ famous slogan of “Grace, Space, Pace”. Available with 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8-litre versions of the renowned XK straight-six engine, the 3.8-litre model represented the pinnacle of performance. Producing around 220 bhp, it could accelerate from 0–60 mph in approximately 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of around 125 mph. Of the 83,976 Mk II Jaguars produced, just 30,141 were the desirable 3.8-litre examples.
Being a sought-after 3.8-litre engine in it's original specification and colour scheme with long-term ownership and a superb accompanying history file, this Mk II represents an appealing opportunity to acquire one of Jaguar’s most iconic sporting saloons.
