In Brief:

  • Distinctive and characterful example of Buell's M2 Cyclone
  • Powered by Harley-Davidson V-twin engine
  • MOT valid until March 2027 with no advisories
  • Modified to improve performance and usability

Auctioneer's Notes:

A distinctive and characterful example of Buell’s M2 Cyclone, first registered on 13th April 1999. Powered by Buell’s muscular Harley-Davidson Sportster-derived 1,203cc V-twin, this particular machine has also benefited from a number of performance and usability upgrades. The Vendor describes it as a comfortable bike that is “very quick”, with plentiful torque and impressive handling.

Maintenance & Condition:

The motorcycle is accompanied by its V5C and is currently MOT tested until 9th March 2027 with no advisories. The Vendor advises that modifications include a carbon exhaust, uprated carburettors and intake system, believed cylinder head work and an uprated camshaft, together with an external breather and alloy oil tank. Further enhancements include lower gearing, raised handlebars, adjustable levers, braided hoses, an LED rear light and Pirelli tyres. The Vendor notes that, as a result of the altered gearing, the recorded mileage reads slightly higher than the distance actually travelled.

History:

First registered in April 1999, this M2 Cyclone represents one of Buell’s distinctive late-1990s American sports motorcycles. The Vendor describes the machine as a much-loved example, with its various modifications seemingly focused on improving performance, responsiveness and everyday usability while retaining the unmistakable character of the original Cyclone.

The Model:

The Buell M2 Cyclone combined American V-twin power with an unconventional sports chassis, using a 1,203cc air-cooled 45-degree V-twin derived from the Harley-Davidson Sportster and paired with a five-speed gearbox and belt final drive. Its tubular steel frame, aluminium swingarm and Showa suspension helped give the Cyclone a far more sporting character than its engine origins might suggest.

For 1999, the M2 received a number of revisions, most notably the larger five-gallon ‘Manta-Ray’ fuel tank and a more accommodating dual seat. With its compact proportions, strong torque delivery, under-engine exhaust arrangement and unmistakably individual styling, the Cyclone offered a uniquely American interpretation of the naked sports motorcycle.

Sale Insight:

An appealing opportunity to acquire one of Buell’s increasingly distinctive modern classics, enhanced with a worthwhile selection of performance and ergonomic upgrades. With a long MOT carrying no advisories and the Vendor reporting strong performance and handling, this modified M2 Cyclone should appeal to enthusiasts seeking something rather different from the more conventional Japanese and European motorcycles of the period.

Estimate:
£1,000 - £2,000
