A very presentable example of the Series 1 Daimler 2.8 Sovereign, offering all the elegance and refinement of the early XJ platform with the added exclusivity of Daimler badging. Finished in the attractive period colour of Sable Brown over a smartly retrimmed Tan interior, this Sovereign presents as a well-cared-for and useable classic saloon. With just three former keepers and five years in the current ownership, it represents a pleasingly correct and appealing example of the breed.
This Daimler has benefitted from a notable amount of recent work aimed at both presentation and usability. The interior has been fully re-upholstered, including seats, headlining and carpets, giving the cabin a fresh yet sympathetic appearance. Mechanically, the car has received a carburettor overhaul along with a manual choke conversion.
Accompanying the car is a comprehensive and interesting history file. Included are both the Jaguar XJ6 and Daimler Sovereign Operating Manuals, the Daimler ‘Passport to Service’ booklet, the Daimler Sale & Service Facilities booklet, along with a collection of invoices and old MOT certificates. This paperwork adds depth to the car’s provenance and reflects ongoing care over the years.
The Daimler Sovereign name was applied by Jaguar Cars to its luxury saloons between 1966 and 1983. Introduced in October 1969, the Series I Sovereign was based on the Jaguar XJ6 and was visually almost identical, save for the distinctive fluted Daimler grille and badging. Subtle interior trim differences further distinguished the Daimler from its Jaguar counterpart. Available with either the 2.8-litre like this example or 4.2-litre XK engine.
With its desirable Series 1 styling, attractive colour combination, low number of former keepers and extensive interior refurbishment, this Daimler 2.8 Sovereign makes a compelling proposition.
