  • Highly collectible and appealing British motorcycle
  • Only two former keepers
  • Finished in period-correct Pale Polychromatic Green

Auctioneer's Notes:

A handsome example of BSA’s sporting 500cc twin, the 1960 Shooting Star represents one of the marque’s best-known pre-unit motorcycles. With classic British styling and a reputation for smooth, dependable performance, it remains an appealing choice for both collectors and riders. Finished in Pale Polychromatic Green, in fitting with the period.

Maintenance & Condition:

No supporting maintenance history accompanies the motorcycle, and prospective buyers are therefore encouraged to satisfy themselves as to its mechanical and cosmetic condition prior to sale.

History:

No historical paperwork or supporting history file is present with the motorcycle.

The Model:

The BSA A7 Shooting Star, or A7SS, was the sporting derivative of BSA’s successful A7 parallel-twin range. Powered by a 497cc air-cooled pushrod twin producing approximately 30bhp, it was capable of close to 90mph and offered a strong balance of performance, refinement and reliability.

By 1960, the Shooting Star benefited from an alloy cylinder head, higher-compression engine specification, four-speed gearbox and swinging-arm rear suspension. Its duplex cradle frame and drum brakes provided capable road manners, while the smoother nature of the 500cc twin made it particularly well suited to relaxed touring and everyday classic motorcycling.

Sale Insight:

An attractive opportunity to acquire one of BSA’s most recognisable 500cc sporting twins from the closing years of the pre-unit era. With no accompanying history, its appeal lies principally in the enduring reputation and collectability of the Shooting Star model itself.

Estimate:

£3,000-£4,000
