A beautifully restored example of the four-seater variant of the Lotus Elan, finished in Red with a distinctive Silver flake roof. This stylish and well-presented Elan +2 combines the marque’s hallmark agility with a more refined and practical grand touring character.
KLR 38K has enjoyed a remarkably stable ownership history, with just two former keepers prior to The Vendor, who acquired the car in 1999. Purchased from the second owner as a project, the car has been transformed during The Vendor’s 26-year custodianship into the fine example offered today. The engine has been fully refurbished with new carburettors, a new clutch has been fitted, the brakes have been refurbished and an electronic fuel pump installed for enhanced reliability. The chassis has been galvanised on both sides, providing a strong foundation for long-term preservation. The car has always been garaged and covered in The Vendor's ownership.
Introduced in 1967, the Elan +2 was developed to offer the same superb handling and performance as the original Elan but in a larger, more luxurious and family-friendly package. With a longer wheelbase, wider track and two small rear seats, it was designed to transport “two adults and two children 1,000 miles in comfort with their luggage,” as noted by Motor Sport magazine at the time. While the two-seater Elan ceased production in 1973, the +2 continued until 1975.
A well-restored, long-term owned Lotus Elan +2 presented in a striking colour combination and in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. With just two former keepers and over two decades of careful maintenance by the current owner, this example represents an exceptional opportunity for the discerning Lotus enthusiast or collector seeking a well-sorted, ready-to-enjoy classic.
