A stylish and highly usable example of the final-generation Alfa Romeo Spider Series 4, imported from Japan in 1996 and subsequently converted to right-hand drive by Bell & Colvill — a conversion widely regarded as one of the best available for these cars. Finished with the desirable Ansa exhaust system, this Spider has been owned by the current keeper for the last 7 years and offers classic Italian open-top motoring with added usability for UK roads.
Recent works have included attention to the braking system, clutch system and exhaust, while more extensive maintenance and improvement works were carried out between 2016 and 2019. The car is also accompanied by MOT history from 2010 through to 2021, helping to support its recorded upkeep. The fitment of the Ansa exhaust system adds a suitably sporting note to the Alfa’s characterful twin-cam engine.
Introduced in 1990, the Series 4 represented the final evolution of Alfa Romeo’s long-running Pininfarina-styled Spider. Retaining the elegant 1960s silhouette that made the model famous, the Series 4 brought a cleaner and more modern appearance, replacing the bulkier styling of the Series 3 with colour-coded bumpers, smoother rear styling and tail lamps inspired by the Alfa Romeo 164. Powered by Alfa’s much-loved 2.0-litre twin-cam four-cylinder engine and paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Series 4 combines classic Italian charm with improved refinement, power steering and greater everyday usability.
Originally supplied as a Japanese-market car, this Spider was imported into the UK in 1996. As with all Series 4 Spiders, it was originally built in left-hand drive, with this example later benefiting from a Bell & Colvill right-hand drive conversion. Bell & Colvill have long been associated with quality sports car preparation and conversions, and their work on these Alfa Spiders is considered among the most respected. The current keeper has owned the car for the past 7 years.
The Series 4 Spider is often regarded as the most usable of the classic Alfa Spiders, offering the timeless Pininfarina design with the benefit of later-model improvements. This example is made particularly attractive by its Japanese import history, respected Bell & Colvill right-hand drive conversion, Ansa exhaust and recent mechanical attention. A fine opportunity to acquire a characterful Italian roadster with added practicality for UK enjoyment.
