Auctioneer's Notes:

A smart and usable example of the 2003 Porsche Boxster S Convertible, representing the facelifted 986-generation model with the more powerful 3.2-litre flat-six engine and desirable open-top, mid-engined layout. The Boxster S offers a superb blend of everyday usability, strong performance and highly regarded handling, with the S model benefiting from the larger engine, uprated braking and sharper chassis setup over the standard Boxster.

Maintenance & Condition:

The car is accompanied by the original maintenance book showing 12 service stamps between 9,902 miles in 2005 and 107,599 miles in 2023, along with two further stamps for brake fluid changes and two for airbag system checks. The history file details a wide range of maintenance and remedial work over the years, including attention to the cooling system, suspension, braking system, air conditioning, convertible roof mechanism, engine ancillaries and electrical components. Notable works include replacement of the coolant reservoir, heat exchanger, MAF sensor, alternator, both air conditioning condensers with regas, front springs, suspension top mounts and bearings, brake discs, pads, sensors, plates and shoes, brake pipe replacement, a convertible roof relay, steering lock assembly and lock, and fitment of genuine Michelin tyres. The dashboard has also been replaced with a second-hand unit.

Please note, the mileage shown is to be taken as incorrect. It is believed that the car has covered between 125,000 and 135,000 miles.

History:

The car is accompanied by a documented service and maintenance record, with the service book showing regular stamped entries from 2005 through to 2023. The wider file contains invoices covering routine maintenance as well as more substantial mechanical and ancillary work, evidencing continued upkeep throughout the car’s life. The stamped service record and documents are present up until approximately 2,000 miles ago.

The Model:

The 2003 Porsche Boxster S forms part of the facelifted first-generation 986 range and is powered by a 3.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine, producing around 258bhp. Drive is sent to the rear wheels, with the S model offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard or Tiptronic automatic transmission depending on specification. Performance was impressive, with 0-60mph achieved in approximately 5.7 seconds and a top speed of around 166mph.

The 2003 update brought a number of improvements to the Boxster range, including revised exterior styling, updated front and rear bumpers, clearer indicator lenses, improved interior quality, a standard glovebox and, importantly, a redesigned convertible roof with a heated glass rear window in place of the earlier plastic item. The Boxster S is particularly well regarded for its mid-engined balance, precise steering and strong braking performance, sharing much of the dynamic character that made Porsche’s contemporary sports cars so highly praised.

Sale Insight:

A well-documented 986 Boxster S with a strong service record and evidence of extensive maintenance across many of the common mechanical and ancillary areas. With its 3.2-litre flat-six engine, facelift styling and glass-window hood, this 2003 Boxster S offers an engaging and increasingly appreciated modern-classic Porsche experience. Prospective buyers should note the mileage discrepancy, with the car believed to have covered between 125,000 and 135,000 miles.
