A beautiful example of MG’s post-war saloon, this 1958 Magnette ZB Varitone presents in two-tone Steel Blue over Mineral Blue, complemented by a Beige leather interior.
Owned by The Vendor for the past six years, VXT 270 is accompanied by a substantial history file that includes the original MG Magnette workshop manual, photos documenting restorative work, various invoices, MOT certificates and a wiring diagram. This example has been thoughtfully upgraded for enhanced drivability, featuring an MGB 1.8-litre engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox, disc brakes, electronic ignition, stainless-steel manifold and exhaust (invoice on file £2,461.80) and an electronic fan. It has also been converted to negative earth, though the original clock and radio which remainn positive earth have been kept in the cabin to preserve originality.
First unveiled at the 1953 London Motor Show, the MG Magnette marked the brand’s debut monocoque saloon. The ZB series, introduced in 1956, brought improved performance and refinement, while the Varitone variant added a two-tone exterior finish and an enlarged rear screen, creating one of the most stylish British saloons of the 1950s. Leather upholstery and a polished wood dashboard completed the model’s luxurious interior.
Offered at no reserve due to The Vendor’s advancing age and health, this delightful ZB Varitone represents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-presented, mechanically enhanced example of MG’s classic saloon. VXT 270 is ready to provide its next custodian with many more miles of motoring enjoyment.
