In Brief:

  • An excellent example of a Cresta PA
  • Finished in a period appropriate colour scheme; two-tone Cream over Brown
  • Owned by The Vendor's late father from 2021-2025
  • Great history file including local provenance

Auctioneer’s Notes:

A charming example of the iconic early-1960s British saloon, this 1961 Vauxhall Cresta PA is presented in period two-tone Cream over Bronze. A true head-turner of its era, the car is further enhanced by a delightful miniature model of it displayed on the dashboard. Accompanied by a history file with a personal touch, this example carries a strong sense of provenance and local heritage.

Maintenance & Condition:

Presented in a very good condition while retaining originality, this Cresta offers a glimpse into 1960s motoring. The car is described as starting readily “on the button,” suggesting it remains a usable and enjoyable classic. The exterior presents well in its period two-tone finish, while the interior retains a warm, original feel with a pleasing patina. Overall, an honest and well-preserved example rather than an over-restored one.

History:

Owned by the Vendor’s late father as part of a private collection, the car has clearly been cherished in enthusiast hands. Prior to this, it belonged to a close friend of the Vendor’s father - a professional car valeter at a local Rolls-Royce independent specialist - who is understood to have maintained the car to a particularly high standard during his ownership. Notably, this gentleman is pictured alongside the vehicle in the accompanying photographs included within the history file. The vehicle has been local to the Bournemouth area for many years, regularly seen along the East Cliff and at local wedding venues. Accompanying the car is a history file including MOT certificates dating back to 2006, alongside service invoices from all the way back in 1996.

The Model:

The 1961 Vauxhall Cresta PA is one of the most recognisable British saloons of its era, heavily influenced by contemporary American automotive design. Featuring sweeping tail fins, a panoramic windscreen and generous chrome detailing. Powered by a 2.6-litre straight-six engine, the Cresta delivers relaxed touring performance, typically paired with a column-shift manual gearbox like in this example. By 1961, the model had evolved with a cleaner roofline and single-piece rear window, improving both practicality and aesthetics, making later PA models particularly desirable today.

Sale Insight:

With its strong local provenance, good condition and original presentation, this Cresta PA represents a particularly appealing opportunity. Increasingly scarce in such unspoiled condition, it offers enthusiasts the chance to acquire a genuine, characterful example with a story to tell.
