A usable example of the facelifted Ford Sierra XR4x4, finished in Red over Grey cloth upholstery. Offered from long-term ownership, this car has been with The Vendor for an impressive 19 years and presents as an honest, well-cared-for example of Ford’s iconic four-wheel-drive performance saloon.
Following a long period of dry storage, the Sierra has recently undergone comprehensive recommissioning to return it to reliable road use. Works carried out include a new fuel tank, new fuel lines from front to back, replacement brake pipes, new brake discs, calipers, pads and flexible hoses, along with an engine service. In addition, between 2004 and the present day the car has benefitted from a replacement gearbox sourced from an ‘F’-registration Sierra, a new clutch, rear shock absorbers, distributor cap, spark plugs, rear copper brake pipes and front springs.
The history file includes photographs of the vehicle, the original Owner’s Handbook, the Ford Service Handbook and a small selection of invoices. The Service Book displays an impressive 13 service stamps, charting maintenance from 1990 at just 1,600 miles through to 2003 at 79,666 miles, supporting the car’s long-term care and documents mileage during its earlier life.
Manufactured from 1982 to 1993, the Ford Sierra became one of Europe’s most recognisable family cars. Unveiled at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show, the XR4x4 was introduced as a four-wheel-drive derivative of the XR4i, featuring viscous differentials with a rear-biased power split for confident, sure-footed handling. Initially fitted with the 2.8-litre Cologne V6, the model evolved in 1989 to adopt the more efficient 2.9-litre Cologne V6 with electronic fuel injection—just as fitted to this example.
Fast Fords of this era continue to enjoy strong enthusiast interest, and original XR4x4s are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly in usable condition with long-term ownership and sensible recommissioning already completed.
