The Model:

The Triumph TR4A was produced at Triumph’s Coventry factory from 1965 to 1967 as the evolution of the Giovanni Michelotti-styled TR4. The most significant development was the introduction of independent rear suspension, denoted by the “IRS” badge to the rear, which replaced the earlier Hotchkiss drive arrangement and gave the model improved ride comfort and greater touring refinement. The TR4A IRS used a semi-trailing arm rear suspension system with coil springs and lever-arm dampers, requiring substantial changes to the chassis, side members and cross-bracing. Visually, the model can be distinguished from the TR4 by its revised grille, new bonnet badge, additional side chrome trim with integrated signal and marker lights, smaller front bumpers and revised hood arrangement. Inside, TR4A models gained a walnut-covered fascia, revised seats, a shorter gear lever and the repositioned fly-off handbrake on the transmission tunnel.
