A good example of Daimler’s post-war craftsmanship, this Conquest Century is finished in Black with a contrasting Red leather interior. Complete with a boot full of useful spares, including oil filters, spark plugs, gaskets, chrome ashtrays, handles, trafficators and the original back seat, it stands as a well-preserved example.
In the same family since 1972 and with just two former keepers prior, this example has a reassuring ownership story. It also attended the Goodwood Revival in 2015. This Daimler benefits from a rebuilt engine and rebanded gearbox, both carried out in 1979. It has seen only occasional use over the past 20 years, suggesting light wear. It is accompanied by the original handbook, a service parts catalogue copy and a good history file – all pointing to careful, long-term ownership and responsible upkeep.
The Daimler Conquest Century was introduced in the early 1950s as an evolution of the Lanchester Fourteen. Sharing the underpinnings of its predecessor, it featured a 2.4-litre straight-six engine paired with Daimler’s trademark four-speed preselector gearbox and fluid flywheel – a setup that provided a smooth driving experience. Despite its engineering merit, production ceased in 1958, partially due to economic pressures like the Suez Crisis, making surviving examples increasingly sought after.
This 1955 Conquest Century offers a compelling opportunity to acquire a well-documented, characterful British saloon with provenance. With spares included and signs of careful ownership, it’s an ideal choice for the enthusiast looking for a usable classic or a rewarding light project.
