  • Owned by The Vendor for the last 9 years
  • Comes with cracking history file - documents lots of new parts
  • 1 of around 2,500 MK 2 Mexico's made

On the Surface:

A fine example of the sought-after Mk2 Escort RS Mexico, this car is finished in Carnival Red with a cloth interior and sits proudly on a set of RS alloy wheels fitted with Yokohama tyres. Having been re-shelled into a mint, rust-free RS shell, it retains its original roll-top seats and interior, together with correct RS components including axle, suspension, brakes, dash, spoilers, lights, bumpers, and trim. The result is a well-sorted Mexico that presents nicely.

Maintenance & History:

A UK-market, right-hand-drive example, first registered in April 1977, this Mexico has been owned by The Vendor for the past nine years and is registered with the RS Owners Club. It comes with a comprehensive history file, including RS Haynes manuals, previous MOT certificates, and a wealth of invoices covering servicing, maintenance, and parts. The car is historic registered on the V5, TAX and MOT exempt and currently MOT’d until September 2026. Power comes from a rebuilt 1600cc unleaded engine (not the original unit) mated to a five-speed Type 9 gearbox. The car benefits from a host of recent mechanical attention including a new cam belt, Weber 32/36 carburettor with K&N filter, Ashley exhaust system and a recent radiator, battery, starter motor, alternator, Magnacor HT leads and ignition components.

The Model:

With only around 2,500 Mk2 Mexicos produced, the model represents one of the rarest members of the Ford RS family. Introduced in 1976 as a successor to the legendary Mk1 Mexico—named to celebrate Ford’s victory in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally—the Mk2. Positioned between the 1600 Sport and RS2000 in both performance and price, the Mk2 Mexico’s short production run and difficult market position has made it a prized and collectible classic today.

Sale Insight:

Well-presented and clearly cherished, this example offers a superb opportunity to acquire a genuine piece of Ford RS heritage. SMX 167R will appeal to enthusiasts seeking a useable and well-sorted Mexico, as well as collectors looking for one of the rarer RS-badged Escorts.
