Auctioneer's Notes:

A characterful and well-presented example of the 1969 Triumph 2000 Automatic, finished in a deep period-style Blue over a Black interior with the model’s distinctive wood-trimmed dashboard and comfortable ribbed seating. The current keeper acquired the Triumph in 2011, having purchased it from the Bournemouth area after it had reportedly been standing for approximately three years. It was acquired as a non-runner and transported home, after which a considerable programme of recommissioning and ongoing maintenance was undertaken. The car sits attractively on period Triumph Stag-style alloy wheels, giving it a subtly sportier appearance while retaining the handsome Michelotti lines of the original design.

Maintenance & Condition:

Following its purchase in 2011, the Triumph was recommissioned with attention given to both mechanical and structural areas. The current keeper's records detail servicing and engine work together with repairs to the inner and outer sills and floors. Further work is recorded as including replacement or attention to the radiator, fuel tank and fuel lines, brake calipers and pads, heater system and suspension, together with the replacement of the original dynamo by an alternator and the fitment of a pre-engaged starter motor. An AccuSpark electronic ignition system has also been fitted, with the installation guide remaining in the history file. A substantial collection of invoices accompanies the vehicle and documents regular servicing, repairs and maintenance carried out over the years. The car presents as an honest and usable example, with a smart Black interior showing the appealing period detailing for which these cars are known.

History:

The Triumph is accompanied by a particularly well-organised history file containing old registration and tax documents, together with a printed MOT history covering 2006 to 2011. A handwritten summary within the file highlights that the recorded mileage increased by just 998 miles over a period of approximately five years and nine months, suggesting very limited use during that time. Further original MOT certificates are present covering the period from 2011 through to 2018.Also included are a factory record certificate, original Shell service guide, Autobook workshop manual, AccuSpark ignition fitting instructions, a large quantity of maintenance invoices and assorted promotional literature. Further items include period motoring magazines and a display board from an appearance at Classic Cars On The Prom, adding some enjoyable provenance to an already comprehensive file.

The current keeper has also compiled handwritten notes recording the car's known history and the work undertaken during their ownership, providing a useful personal record of its recommissioning and subsequent upkeep.

The Model:

Introduced in 1963, the Triumph 2000 established itself as one of Britain's most accomplished sporting executive saloons of the period. Styled by Giovanni Michelotti, its clean, restrained lines were paired with a spacious and well-appointed cabin featuring extensive wood trim and a level of comfort aimed squarely at the growing executive-car market. Power came from Triumph's smooth 1,998cc straight-six engine, with this example benefiting from the relaxed Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission. Independent suspension all round, front disc brakes and a refined chassis gave the 2000 notably sophisticated road manners for its era, helping establish the model as a credible alternative to considerably more expensive machinery.

Sale Insight:

This is an appealing Triumph 2000 with the desirable combination of straight-six power and automatic transmission, supported by a notably comprehensive and carefully organised history file. The extensive maintenance records, long-term ownership since 2011 and written account of the car's recommissioning provide useful insight into its past, while its restrained dark Blue finish, Black interior and period alloy wheels give it an attractive and traditional appearance. With Michelotti styling, a smooth six-cylinder engine and genuinely usable four-door practicality, the Triumph 2000 remains one of the most accomplished British sporting saloons of its generation and represents an increasingly appealing route into 1960s executive motoring.
