A genuinely lovely and well-cared-for example of the Daimler Double Six 5.3 HE. Finished in Gunmetal Grey metallic with Saville Grey leather, this car has clearly been cherished throughout its life, most notably by its previous keeper who owned it for an impressive 36 years. With just four former keepers and only around 4,000 miles covered in the last two decades, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire a Double Six that has been owned and maintained with genuine affection.
Always garaged during long-term ownership, the car presents in very pleasing condition both inside and out, reflecting the care and pride taken by its former custodian. Although the previous keeper sadly became too ill to drive in later years, the vehicle continued to be MOT’d, started regularly and kept in good running order. The paintwork, brightwork and interior upholstery all show well, and the cabin retains the unmistakable Daimler luxury. Overall, it is a very honest and unspoilt example that wears its years gracefully.
Following the passing of its long-term owner, the car was left to his neighbour, who had cared for him in his final years. It is accompanied by a good history file which includes the original Jaguar Daimler Vehicle Literature bookpack, a Haynes manual, MOT certificates, old registration documents and a selection of invoices for work carried out over the years. The literature pack contains the Driver’s Handbook, cassette and radio owner’s guide, dealer network booklet and the Service Record and Warranty handbook. The service book shows four recorded services between 1987 at 30,011 miles and 1988 at 61,923 miles.
From 1972, Jaguar’s smooth and powerful 5.3-litre V12 engine became available in the XJ range, and for the Daimler variant a historic name was revived: Double Six. While mechanically similar to its Jaguar counterpart, the Daimler offered a more discreet and traditional luxury appeal, sharing the same grille as the six-cylinder model and distinguished externally largely by its badges. The Double Six followed the development of the XJ through to Series III, remaining in production until 1992.
A rare chance to purchase a long-term-owned Daimler Double Six with appealing provenance and a genuine story of careful custodianship. Its condition and history make it an excellent choice for the enthusiast seeking a refined V12 saloon that has clearly been loved rather than simply used.
