Auctioneer’s Notes:

A truly exceptional example of the Austin A55 Cambridge, offered in outstanding condition and presented to a level rarely seen. Finished in two-tone Cream and Grey over a Beige interior, this beautifully restored saloon could possibly be regarded as one of the very best A55 Cambridges currently available in the UK.

Maintenance & Condition:

The vehicle has been the subject of a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration by Heritage Classics, with a plate under the bonnet confirming the work carried out. The restoration has been completed to an extremely high standard, and today the car presents superbly throughout.

History:

Although built in 1957, the car was first registered in the UK in February 1984 and has had just three former keepers during its time here. It retains its original Somerset registration number, adding to its authenticity and appeal. Accompanying the car is an excellent history file which includes a comprehensive photographic record of the restoration, images of the car upon completion and a selection of old MOT certificates.

The Model:

Introduced in January 1957 as a replacement for the A50, the Austin A55 Cambridge featured the familiar 1.5-litre B-Series engine but benefitted from a subtle restyle, a larger boot and a significantly increased rear window. The model sat lower thanks to smaller 13-inch wheels, with revised rear axle gearing maintaining overall performance. Two-tone paintwork, as seen on this example, was an optional extra when new. Around 154,000 examples were produced before the model was replaced in 1959 by the Pininfarina-styled A55 Cambridge.

Sale Insight:

Benefitting from a professional restoration, it's original registration number and limited UK ownership, this 1957 Austin A55 Cambridge represents a rare opportunity to acquire a fine example of the model. Ideal for concours display and classic events, this is quite possibly the finest A55 Cambridge available today.
