; JAGUAR MK II 240 | SWVA

In Brief:

  • An honest example of a 240 badged Mk II
  • Finished in Old English White over a Black leather interior
  • Owned by The Vendor for the last 10 years
  • Considerable amounts of work completed

Auctioneer’s Notes:

A decent example of the Jaguar 240, finished in Old English White over a Black leather interior. Owned by The Vendor for the last 10 years, this 1969 example presents as a usable late-production derivative of the much-loved Mk II, benefitting from a notable amount of expenditure and improvement during current ownership.

Maintenance & Condition:

The Vendor advises that a considerable amount of money has been spent on the car over the years. Works noted include all new suspension, a new fuel pump, new sender unit, new fuel lines, overhauled brakes, recent paintwork, new front seats, new door cards, a new battery, alternator conversion, and a full engine bay rewire. Further mechanical attention is said to include the carburettors being cleaned and overhauled, a new radiator, new hoses, a new water pump, and an engine service using Castrol oil and filters. The Vendor also notes that the original front seats are included with the car and collection of these can be arranged once the vehicle is purchased.

History:

This Jaguar has been in The Vendor’s ownership for the last 10 years. It is accompanied by an RAC vehicle check sheet, a couple of books on the Jaguar Mk II, a Haynes manual for the Jaguar Mk II, and a Jaguar Mk I & Mk II Essential Buyer’s Guide.

The Model:

The Jaguar Mark 2 was a mid-sized luxury sports saloon built by Jaguar in Coventry from late 1959 to 1967, following on from the earlier 2.4 Litre and 3.4 Litre saloons, now commonly referred to as the Mk I. Renowned for combining comfort, sporting performance and elegant styling, the Mk II perfectly embodied Sir William Lyons’ famous phrase: “Grace, Space, Pace.” The 240 and 340 were introduced in 1967 as revised versions of the 2.4 and 3.4-litre Mk II models, acting as a bridge before the arrival of the XJ6. The 240 continued in limited production until April 1969. This Jaguar 240 was number 215 out of 571 vehicles manufactured during 1969 in the United Kingdom making this example one of the final evolutions of Jaguar’s iconic compact sports saloon line.

Sale Insight:

With its classic Mk II styling, elegant colour combination, 10-year current ownership and notable expenditure, this Jaguar 240 offers an appealing opportunity for those seeking a classic saloon. The works carried out under current ownership should provide reassurance to prospective buyers, while the accompanying literature and included original front seats add further interest.
