Auctioneer's Notes:

A charming example of the much-loved Fiat 500 D, showing just two former keepers and benefiting from extensive restorative work during its lifetime. Its compact proportions, rear-hinged doors and unmistakable Italian styling make it a particularly appealing early example of the model.

Maintenance & Condition:

The history file contains invoices totalling £2,328 from 2009 for a rebuild undertaken by Fiat specialists Auto Rosso. Further restorative work was carried out by Weenie Fiats in 2021 at a cost of £1,846, demonstrating continued investment in the car. As a historic vehicle, it is MOT exempt.

History:

With only two former keepers recorded, this 1963 example is accompanied by old registration documents and paperwork relating to its restoration. The specialist invoices provide useful evidence of the considerable work undertaken over the years.

The Model:

Introduced as an evolution of the original Nuova 500, the Fiat 500 D retained the desirable rear-hinged “suicide” doors while gaining the larger 499cc rear-mounted, air-cooled twin-cylinder engine. Light, simple and economical, the 500 became one of the defining cars of post-war Italy and remains instantly recognisable today.

Sale Insight:

An attractive early Fiat 500 D with low recorded keeper numbers and documented specialist restoration work. With invoices showing more than £4,000 of expenditure across two respected Fiat specialists, it represents an appealing opportunity to acquire one of Italy’s most iconic small cars.
