A cracking example of a rarer seen, road-legal Ginetta G20 finished in striking Dark Green Metallic ‘Richard Mille’ livery with bold Orange accents over a contrasting Red leather interior. This ex-works press car is also enhanced by aero screens. A truly eye-catching and finely presented example of Ginetta’s lightweight sports racer that weighs just 660kg.
Originally built as a factory press car, this G20 holds an especially interesting provenance. It featured on Men & Motors, where it was driven and reviewed by Richard Hammond, and was also tested by motoring journalist Graham Bell. Beyond its television fame, D33 TWF has seen notable use, having successfully completed the Liège–Corsica Rally, including a memorable run through the Nürburgring, and was displayed at the March 2002 Sports and Supercar Show. Its history file is comprehensive and impressive, containing MOT certificates, a vast collection of invoices totalling around £42,000 for restoration and upgrades and extensive documentation of its past events and ownership.
This example has been the subject of an extensive body-off restoration, incorporating a wealth of mechanical and cosmetic improvements. The works included fitment of a new roll cage, a 2.0-litre 16-valve Zetec engine (producing approximately 180 BHP) installed in 2017, a refurbished close-ratio BGH Geartec gearbox, and a custom stainless-steel exhaust by Infinity Exhausts. Further enhancements include ARP conrod bolts, Piper sports camshaft, cylinder head upgrade, OMEX ECU, upgraded injectors, bespoke airbox and a differential rebuild with limited-slip unit. Suspension upgrades include bespoke wishbone bushes supplied by Ginetta specialists De Spong Enterprises, complemented by road/track R888R Toyo tyres for superior grip. The car has also benefited from a full respray completed by Cotswold Classic Car Restorations and enamel wheel refurbishment. Accompanying the car is a smaller steering wheel for the next owners preference and a tonneau cover for wet weather driving, adding to its practicality.
Introduced in 2000, the Ginetta G20 epitomises the marque’s ethos of lightweight performance and driver engagement. Powered by a lively Ford Zetec engine and weighing just 750kg stock (this example has been reduced to 660kg), the G20 offered an ideal balance of power and agility designed for motorsport. Originally designed as a competition and training platform, it became the foundation for Ginetta’s single-make race series.
Factory-built and once part of Ginetta’s official press fleet, D33 TWF stands out as a unique opportunity to own a G20 with documented ties to both Richard Hammond and Graham Bell. With meticulous levels of work and upgrades completed, road-legal status and an enviable specification, it offers the perfect blend of provenance, performance and presentation. Ready for road use, sprints, or hill climbs, this Ginetta represents an unrepeatable chance to acquire a motor car with genuine media and motorsport connections.
