Auctioneer’s Notes:

A tidy and well-kept example of the increasingly appreciated 1992 Lotus Elan M100 SE Turbo, presented in unmodified and original specification. Finished in striking Metallic Pacific Blue with a black convertible soft top over a black leather interior, this example offers an attractive and classic colour combination. Having remained within the same family ownership for the last 10 years, it benefits from persistent care and routine maintenance. With just four owners prior and a comprehensive history file, this Elan represents a genuine and well-preserved example of Lotus’ innovative front-wheel-drive roadster.

Maintenance & Condition:

The car has been routinely serviced throughout its life, supported by an impressive service record comprising 28 stamps and 1 handwritten entry, covering maintenance from 7,314 miles in 1993 through to 55,278 miles in 2024. Notably, the majority of servicing has been carried out by recognised Lotus agents. The cambelt has been replaced twice in recent years, in 2018 and again in 2023, while the alternator and power steering belts were renewed in 2019. Accompanied by a strong collection of invoices and MOT history printouts, this example appears to have been maintained with diligence and care.

History:

Supplied with its original owner’s handbook, this Elan is supported by a comprehensive history file that reflects consistent maintenance and long-term ownership. Having remained within the same family for a decade, the car offers reassuring provenance and continuity of care, further enhanced by its largely specialist servicing history.

The Model:

Produced between 1989 and 1992, the Lotus Elan M100 SE Turbo was a bold departure for Lotus, being the marque’s first front-wheel-drive sports car. Designed by Peter Steven with a distinctive wedge-shaped profile and pop-up headlights. Powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged Isuzu engine producing around 162–165bhp, the Elan delivers impressive performance, achieving 0–60mph in approximately 6.5 seconds and a top speed exceeding 135mph. Developed under General Motors ownership, it features a steel backbone chassis, fiberglass body, and independent suspension, resulting in contemporary testers to describe it as one of the fastest point-to-point cars of its time.

Sale Insight:

This M100 Elan SE Turbo presents as an increasingly collectible modern classic. Finished in an appealing colour scheme and supported by excellent documentation, it offers an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts seeking a well-documented and properly maintained example of this underrated British sports car.
