Auctioneer's Notes:

A smart and well-presented example of one of Triumph's most distinctive grand tourers, this 1977 Triumph Stag Automatic is finished in New White with a Black soft top over a tidy Beige interior. Combining Michelotti styling, V8 power and automatic transmission, the Stag remains a particularly usable and characterful British classic.

This example benefits from a number of useful modern conveniences, including a period-style radio cassette with Bluetooth and hands-free phone connectivity, while a rear wind deflector with its accompanying cover helps make open-top motoring more comfortable. Two keys are supplied with the vehicle, and a removable hard top can also be made available to the successful purchaser following the auction.

Maintenance & Condition:

The Stag has continued to receive attention in recent years, with Stromberg carburettors fitted in March 2026 and a right-hand axle pipe fitted in June 2026. Further maintenance has included various pumps, washers, gaskets and associated service items.

Although now classed as a Historic Vehicle for both tax and MOT purposes, the car has nevertheless been voluntarily presented for testing and currently carries an MOT valid until April 2027 with no advisories, offering additional reassurance regarding its current roadworthiness.

Presented in New White with its contrasting Black hood and Beige cabin, the car offers a particularly attractive classic colour combination. The interior presents tidily, while the inclusion of both soft and removable hard-top options gives the car considerable year-round versatility.

History:

Accompanying the Stag is its original Triumph Stag handbook, together with useful supporting documentation from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, including a technical data sheet and a certified copy of the factory record. These documents provide an interesting insight into the car's original factory specification and production history.

The history file also records more recent maintenance and replacement parts, including the carburettor and axle work undertaken during 2026.

The Model:

Styled by celebrated Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag was produced between 1970 and 1978 as a luxurious 2+2 sports tourer intended to compete with established continental grand tourers such as the Mercedes-Benz SL.
