A very tidy and wonderfully original-feeling example of the Ford Escort Mk II Ghia, presented in an attractive colour combination of Black over a Red velour interior. Representing the luxury end of the Mk II Escort range, this well-kept example has been in the same family for over a decade and has clearly been cherished during that time. The car has been garaged since 2013, helping preserve its condition, and it continues to present as an honest and appealing example of this increasingly collectible classic Ford.
The Escort has benefited from sensible maintenance during its life, including the fitment of new tyres in 2020 and the installation of a recent battery. The vinyl roof was removed in 1997. Overall, the car maintains a pleasingly original feel throughout.
Accompanying the vehicle is an excellent history file which includes the original Escort Operation & Care Manual, a substantial collection of invoices for parts, servicing and maintenance, and MOT certificates dating back to 1983. These historic MOTs help support the current mileage of 82,831 miles as genuine.
The Ford Escort was one of the most successful small family cars produced by Ford of Europe, manufactured between 1968 and 2004. The Mk II Escort, introduced in January 1975, featured a squarer and more modern design compared with its predecessor while retaining much of the same mechanical architecture. Developed jointly by Ford of Britain and Ford of Germany under the codename “Brenda,” the Mk II shared its floorpan and core structure with the Mk I but benefitted from updated styling and improved refinement. The Ghia trim level, produced from 1975 to 1980, represented the top of the range and featured a more luxurious specification, including velour upholstery, wood-veneer fascia, centre console, clock, tachometer, trip meter and additional chrome detailing. Powered by the lively 1.3 or 1.6-litre Kent engine, as found in this example, the Ghia offered both comfort and engaging driving dynamics.
Standard Mk II Escorts in well-preserved condition are becoming increasingly sought-after as enthusiasts look beyond the more commonly celebrated sporting derivatives. With its desirable Ghia specification, attractive colour scheme, history file and supported mileage, this example represents a superb opportunity to acquire a well-cared-for and characterful example of one of Ford’s most iconic European examples.
